Charleston, South Carolina has been selected for the fall Balint Leadership Training Intensive. The Intensive is designed to develop and enhance leadership skills and an understanding of the Balint group process. Balint groups are a powerful experiential method of training physicians in therapeutic communication and effective use of doctor-patient relationships. Balint groups are utilized to teach a wide range of professional and interpersonal competencies at residency programs throughout the United States and abroad. Groups are being used in all avenues of healthcare where interpersonal and professional communication understanding is crucial.
Balint members and Balint group leaders at all levels of experience are encouraged to attend, especially those who are interested in leading groups. Training is limited to 30 participants.
Application for continuing education has been made for 20.5 units.
The Intensive focuses on techniques and theory of Balint group process and leadership through a practical and experiential learning opportunity. Small group sessions are led by two faculty members, certified as Balint Leaders. Each session includes a Balint group followed by debriefing of group process and leader interventions. Participants have the opportunity to practice co leading Balint groups and to receive feedback on their leadership skills from faculty, group and review of a recorded group.
Activities begin at noon on Thursday and end at noon on Sunday. Registrants must plan on being present for the entire Intensive.
HOTEL AND CONFERENCE SITE: Holiday Inn Express, 8975 Elms Center Road, North Charleston, SC 29406. The conference will take place at the Trident University Family Medicine Center (TUFMC). The Holiday Inn Express is a new hotel across the street from the TUFMC. Registrants are responsible for securing their hotel arrangements. The American Balint Society has negotiated a special room rate that includes breakfast. Please mention the American Balint Society (ABS) when making reservations.
