"At the center of medicine there is always a human relationship between a patient and a doctor."

2025-2027
I am a clinical psychologist who has spent my entire career at University of Colorado School of Medicine. I was Director of Behavior Science for various CU Family Medicine residencies between 1993 and 2015. In 2015, I moved to medical student education and directed the communication skills curriculum for the school between 2016 and 2024. Currently, I am the Assistant Dean for Student Success.
Leading Balint groups throughout these 32 years has been a consistent cornerstone of my career as very few months went by over that time where I was not facilitating at least 1 Balint group for either residents, community physicians or faculty members. I finally got fully credentialed in 2024 after amazing mentorship and supervision with Dr. Don Nease. My introduction to Balint was at the Behavior Science Forum in Chicago.
Personally, I grew up outside of Chicago and have lived in Colorado since 1981. I live with my husband, Dr. Mark Deutchman, my son A.D. and my blue and gold macaw named Winnicott (as in DW) Blue. I love to travel, garden, hike and eat out. Importantly, I can use the word Balint as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, and gerund.
